About Lorna

Lorna GovierLorna Govier began her study of harp at the age of eleven with Jeanne Kahn, who runs the harp program in the Milwaukee Public Schools in Wisconsin. The first leg of her musical journey was with Celtic music on the lever harp. In high school, she went on to study classical music on pedal harp.

In college, she attended the University of Rochester and pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering. She was fortunate to also be able to keep up with her harp passion, taking private instruction primarily from Eastman School of Music PhD student and instructor, Jung Kwak.

After graduating from the University, she studied harp with Kathy DeAngelo, where she learned to play traditional Irish dance music through the aural tradition. Lorna includes this tradition in her harp teaching studio.

Lorna has recently located to Tucson, Arizona and loves her new desert home. She has opened her teaching studio full time. In addition, Lorna and her harp are available for special occasions. Further, she is affiliated with a number of Tucson music groups, also available for special occasions.

Lorna is particularly interested in the art of teaching music through the harp. She strongly believes that music is integral to the spiritual health of our culture; it connects us to one another, and facilitates us to become more at ease and at peace with ourselves. Thus, she feels that everyone should be given a chance to play music.
